mosaic gallery 14 - birdhouses

My birdhouses are made of weather-resistant cedar and meet all criteria for  successful nesting boxes.  They have a bottom drainage hole, ventilation near the top, and a 1.5 inch entrance hole high up on the front door that opens for cleaning (very important).   Here in Orlando, Florida, our wrens always choose a bird house attached to the house or close to us.  I believe for protection from predators like  squirrels, snakes and hawks and also from the elements.

Birdhouse No. 1 - #146

"Luna Cabana"

Features a little momma bird on upper corner.  Opens for cleaning. Each side is different. Click title or picture to see each side.

Habitat for Humanity Donation

"Luna Cabana" was donated to Habitat for Humanity for their 4th Annual Birdhouse Auction here in Orlando, Florida.  The auction was a lot of fun and I met many artists whose work was awesome!   I believe the auction raised $18,000! :: Price:  $165, plus shipping UPS Ground

Bird house No. 2 - #148  -    Commission

"Free as a Bird"

This bird house has an adorable mommy bird and her two babies on the top corner.  Each side is different here too. Click title or picture for images of each side.

4/4/08 - The wrens are starting to explore nesting sites.  Saw one bringing nesting materials to the birdhouse!

Birdhouse No. 4 - #169

"Bramble Birdhouse"

Top: Here is my latest birdhouse moving towards a more flowing use of the tile.  I've incorporated some mirror, cup handles and an exotic bird.  Tile colors compliment the bird figurine. Twigs are inserted to aid as perches, as well as to give the birds a sense of shelter.  I also like how it looks woodsy.  9.5 hours.

#149 - "Kira Kira"

9  pounds grouted.

Top little ceramic bird is a  Robin Red Breast.

I've attached a small vase to the side to put some flowers in.

I have an infrared camera that I want to mount inside.  Someday....
