7/3/08 - This is the area where Beth will have her potting
bench. Because it's really a work area, it will be somewhat
visible to guests from the sitting area, but not a focal point.

8/4/08
- Decisions have been made on the tile. Beth has been working on
the design and the frame has been built. The direct method of
mosaic will be used as this is an outdoor project that will be
exposed to the elements. A bonding agent will be added to the
thin set just for extra security addressing the freeze/thaw cycle since it will be
staying outdoors. Porcelain tile, mirror, stained
glass and glass mosaic tile will all be incorporated. |

This commission in a little different
in that I have not been retained to make this for Beth, but to
assist her in creating it herself. My role is to help her
with technique, assist in laying out the tile to achieve the effect
she wants, to make sure the right materials are used for a quality
product. As
an artist in this capacity, I feel that the art piece should
reflect Beth's personality, not mine. So, it's new way of
working for me and new for Beth in that although she has conquered
quilts, knitting, and many other art forms, never an art mosaic.
