11/9/09 - Image has been traced onto
hardi-board and copied over again with magic marker. Image is
partially colored in as a precaution to better see what tile goes where.

- I'm in the process of laying out my tiles before gluing in
order to see how the colors are going to work together and also to play
with achieving a fade away effect on the mermaid. To the left is
the tail detail I'll be adding on. In order achieve a consistent tile
depth, I'll be using Weld-Bond
and Portland cement as my glue, as I'll be using the direct method of
mosaic. Notice all the colors I'll be
incorporating to create the ocean.

I'm working
from the inside out and will start with the mermaid since she is the
focus of the whole piece.
My
grout color is a warm tan/sand color that I believe will compliment the
warm amber tiles, as well as the blues and greens. I didn't want
to use a white and didn't want to use a dark, dark grout, as my
background is off-white tiles. I don't want a grid effect, but more of
a muted glow.
See page
3 for some progress beginning to show.
